A CNC surface grinding machine turns a skilled manual operation into a repeatable program. The operator sets the job once. The controller then runs the depth of cut, cross feed, spark-out passes and wheel dressing for every part in the batch.
Prayosha builds its CNC surface grinders in Ahmedabad on the same horizontal-spindle, reciprocating-table platform as its hydraulic machines. According to the manufacturer, all table sizes are available in CNC, and customised profile grinding can be supplied. This makes the CNC range a practical upgrade for shops that already know the PH hydraulic machines.
Four CNC grinding modes
The controller offers four grinding cycles. All of them can be combined with automatic wheel dressing and automatic wheel compensation:
Surface grinding
Criss-cross grinding
Plunge grinding
Profile grinding- Surface grinding: conventional flat grinding with automatic step-over and down feed.
- Criss-cross grinding: alternating passes for a uniform finish across wide faces.
- Plunge grinding: straight infeed for slots, shoulders and steps narrower than the wheel.
- Profile grinding: the wheel follows a programmed form to produce radii, angles and contours.
Two dressing modes with wheel compensation
Table-type single tip dressing
Profile dressingAfter each dressing cycle the controller compensates for the change in wheel diameter, so the next pass still lands at the programmed size. This is what keeps a long batch on size without the operator touching off again.
Profile shapes with 4-axis control
With profile dressing, the machine can grind form shapes such as concave and convex radii, angled faces and combined profiles. These are used in tool steel punches, guide strips, rail sections and forming tools.
CNC models by table size
- CNC Premier profile surface grinder: compact tables for toolroom profile work
- CNC Supreme profile surface grinder: 400–500 mm wide tables
- CNC Jumbo profile surface grinder: heavy 600–800 mm wide tables
- Double column CNC surface grinder: 1000 × 2000 up to 2000 × 5000 mm
CNC vs hydraulic vs PLC
| Need | Best fit |
|---|---|
| Toolroom, one-off parts, low budget | Hydraulic PH series (manual depth of cut) |
| Batch production of flat parts, auto down feed | PLC / ADF series, with semi-auto, auto and plunge cycles |
| Profiles, steps, repeat batches, dressing compensation | CNC surface grinder |
| Very large tables, two grinding heads | Double column CNC |
