Flat surface grinders make faces flat, parallel and to size. Jobs include press-tool plates, mould bases, spacers, parallels, gauge blocks and machine parts. The basic machine is simple. Grinding well depends on choosing the right size, holding the part properly and keeping the wheel in condition.
1. Choose the table size from your parts
Take your largest regular part and add room for clamping. If most work is under 300 mm wide, a Premier is enough. From 400–500 mm, choose Supreme. From 600–800 mm, choose Jumbo. Beyond that, choose double column.

2. Hold the work correctly
Most flat grinding is done on an electro-magnetic chuck. Thin plates bow when they are clamped, so grind both sides alternately and take light finishing passes. Non-magnetic parts need a vise or fixture. See accessories.
3. Keep the wheel true
Balance the wheel on its flange, dress it before finishing, and use clean coolant. A magnetic coolant separator removes the fine steel sludge that otherwise scratches the finish.
4. Control the feed
Prayosha's PH machines have a vertical handwheel least count of 0.002 mm and automatic cross feed of 0.5–5 mm per reversal. Use coarse step-over for roughing and fine step-over with light passes for finishing. For repeat batches, a PLC or CNC machine takes the feed sequence off the operator.
